I was honoured to be the keynote speaker at the Black Men’s Conference, hosted by the Nova Scotia Brotherhood and Nova Scotia Health Authority, on 9th November 2019, at Dalhousie University. Over 200 Black men were registered for the event and discussion focused on our visions as Black men of ourselves contrasted with where we see ourselves now and how to attain our vision. The key to reaching our goals is owning our vision and ourselves informed by our diverse histories and the formative influences that have shaped us because of our status as Black men in a society that does not acknowledge our humanity nor worth. The event was transformative, and I was humbled by the feedback received from the young attendees and elders who found an echo in what I was saying. I see a bright future for our Black men of all ages.
